Research Opportunities at IAS HKUST – Scripps R&D Laboratory

We are currently seeking Research Assistant to join our team at the IAS HKUST R&D Laboratory. Our lab is supervised by Prof. Zhenguo Wu and dedicated to uncovering the molecular mechanisms of extracellular signalling molecules from the aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase (AARS) family and translating these findings into innovative therapeutics for improved patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct cutting-edge research in biomedical sciences.
  • Collaborate closely with aTyr Pharma, a US biotech company, on projects aimed at developing novel therapeutics based on newly discovered pathways effected by extracellular AARS.
  • Implement an innovative single cell-based antibody drug-discovery platform to develop therapeutics targeting extracellular AARS and their receptors.
  • Contribute to publications and filing of US patents.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree awarded by a Hong Kong local university or top 100 institutions for STEM-related subjects if non-local
  • Background in mouse model, cell biology, molecular biology, protein science, or related areas.
  • Experience in transgenic mice breeding, animal studies, mammalian cell culture, or cell-based assays. Experience in protein purification and analysis is an advantage.
  • Attention to detail and good analytical/problem-solving skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

The Division of Life Science at the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (HKUST) is seeking applications for multiple tenure-track and tenured positions in basic and translational research to address our mission in understanding the mechanisms governing human health and diseases. Candidates with interests and experience in neuroscience and neurological diseases, immunology and immune system disorders, aging and age-related diseases, cancer, regenerative medicine, AI in bioscience, and drug discovery are particularly encouraged to apply. Exceptional applicants whose research programs are outside the above areas are also welcome. Outstanding investigators at both junior and senior ranks will be considered. We are also interested in entrepreneurial-minded candidates whose research programs envision a multidisciplinary perspective and cutting-edge experimental approaches. Successful candidates are expected to establish an independent and internationally recognized research program and to contribute to the missions of the Division in undergraduate and postgraduate education.
