 Job Posting Details

Research Assistant position is available in the Division of Life Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

The University is seeking highly energetic and motivated Research Assistants to join our Cell Biology team at the Division of Life Science. The ideal candidate(s) will have the opportunity to actively participate and contribute to the research and development of novel strategies for high-throughput imaging-based drug discovery.  Training will be provided as needed in laboratory techniques, such as in vitro cell culture, performing cell treatments, immunostaining, and microscopy imaging using cutting-edge technologies.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Small- and large-scale tissue culture.
  • Perform various cell treatments such as stimulation with growth factors/cytokines, siRNA-mediated gene silencing, gene overexpression studies, etc.
  • Perform phenotyping assays such as western blot, RT-qPCR, etc.
  • Implement and optimize protocols for immunostaining with multiple antibodies.
  • Confocal and live cell imaging microscopy.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records, laboratory documentation and electronic files.
  • Present and discuss project progress at regular team meetings.
  • Collaborate with other multidisciplinary teams to achieve common goals.
  • Laboratory maintenance, i.e. ordering laboratory supplies, performing general upkeep, etc.
  • Preparation of technical reports, summaries and quantitative analysis of data.

 Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology/molecular biology/Biochemistry/Biomedical Sciences or related field.
  • Willing to work hours during weekdays and weekends depending on experimental needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, team-oriented with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to perform tasks with minimal supervision. 
  • Experience in cell biology- and molecular biology-based laboratory techniques is preferred.
