2018/19 School of Science Postgraduate Research Excellence awardees announced

LIFS is pleased to announce that the following candidates have been selected for the School of Science Postgraduate Research Excellence Award:

WU Xiandeng Life Science Prof. Mingjie ZHANG

The selected winners will receive an amount of HKD $20,000.

DING Wei
DING Wei received the Bachelor of Engineering degree in Biological Engineering and the Master of Science degree in Environmental Microbiology at Northwest A&F University in China. DING is currently a PhD student in Prof. Pei-Yuan Qian‘s lab and has presented at multiple conferences including the Marine Molecular Ecology Gordon Research Conference in 2017. During DING’s time here at LIFS, DING’s research has contributed to many publications in high-quality journals such as Nature Communication, Cell, Biochemistry and Molecular Cell.
HE Yunyun
HE Yunyun received the Bachelor of Science degree at Nanjing University in China. HE is currently a PhD student in Prof. Jiguang Wang‘s lab and has received multiple awards and scholarships including the George K. Lee Foundation Scholarships for 2016/17 and 2017/18. During HE’s time here at LIFS, HE’s research has contributed to publications in PNAS and Developmental Cell.
Hu Weihui
HU Weihui received the Bachelor of Science degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine at Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and MPhil in Pharmaceutical Analysis at Shenyang Pharmaceutical University in China. HU is currently a PhD student in Prof. Karl Wah-Keung Tsim‘s lab and has received awards from the Innovative and Technology Commission from the Hong Kong Government. HU’s research has led to several first-author publications journals including Phytomedicine, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry and FASEB J.
WANG Kai
WANG Kai received the Bachelor of Science degree at Sun Yat-Sen University in China. WANG is now a PhD student in Prof. Ning Li‘s lab and has presented at multiple conferences including the Posttranslational Modification Networks Gordon Research Conference in 2017. WANG’s research has contributed to many first-author publications in journals such as JoVE, PNAS and European Journal of Preventive Cardiology.
WU Xiandeng
WU Xiandeng received the Bachelor of Science degree at Nanjing University in China and is currently a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Mingjie Zhang.  WU has received multiple awards and scholarships from Nanjing Univeristy and HU’s research has contributed to publications in various jouranls including Molecular Cell.

To be eligible for the School of Science Postgraduate Research Excellence Award, the applicant must be an existing research postgraduate students in year 2 or above and those who graduated after the commencement of Spring semester of the previous year.

The selection criteria are based on the candidates’ research capability and research achievements during their whole postgraduate program at HKUST.
