Dedicated suites for the cultivation, maintenance, characterization and cold storage of animal cells, as well as the production of monoclonal antibodies.

Major equipment include: a fluorescence-activated cell sorter, amino acid analyzer, automatic DNA sequencer, oligonucleotide synthesizer, PCR thermocyclers, ultracentrifuges, spectrophotometers and spectrofluorimeters, atomic absorption spectrophotometer, mass spectrometer, HPLC and FPLC, gamma and liquid scintillation counters.

Our state-of-the-art NMR facility consists of 500, 750 and 800 MHz NMR spectrometers equipped with cryoprobes for studies of structures, dynamics and functions of proteins, nucleic acids, and other biomolecules in solution and for drug screening and design.

The Biological Cryo-EM Center is located at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Clear Water Bay. The facility is generously supported by a donation from the Lo Kwee Seong Foundation at HKUST in 2018. As the first integrated cryo-EM center in Hong Kong, the mission of the facility is to support advanced studies in the field of life science, medical science, biology and other related fields. We maintain state-of-the-art equipment, provide eligible access for researchers to microscopes and sample preparation equipment, and support researchers in using the equipment successfully. The facility also offers individual hands-on user training courses for sample preparation, and use of the microscope.
